Comprehensive Chimney Repair Services

Chimney Leaks

Chimney leaks are a common issue, but they can be difficult to spot. We thoroughly investigate all leak issues to determine whether the origin is chimney-related, roof-related or a combination of both.

Damaged Chimney

Our damaged chimney services include repairing or replacing faulty flashings, tuckpointing damaged mortar joints, and addressing issues with concrete chimney caps and upper flues to effectively halt leaks.

Chimney Removal

You can remove your chimney entirely if you have a high-efficiency furnace and water heater and no longer use your chimney. This is a great option if your chimney is deteriorating and needs costly repairs. We remove the chimney below the roof decking, then cover the hole in the roof with new decking and matching shingles.

Customer Story

The customer had a chimney leak. There was water running down their fireplace chimney inside their living room. So they called a chimney repair person who came and tuck pointed their chimney. The next time it rained the leak persisted. They called the chimney repair company back. he came out and said everything was good. It has to be a roof leak. Customer then called a roofing company who came out found some problems. Replaced some shingles and made some repairs and the next time it rained, the leak continued, they called the roofing company back. They came out and said it’s definitely a chimney leak.

At this point they had spent a lot of money and were frustrated. After doing some research, they found Repair Specialist Inc. After an inspection, I found several defects in the chimney and the roof. After making these repairs I never heard from them again. Sadly, many customers will tell me that their roof has been leaking for years and they’ve called out two or three contractors who failed to fix it. This is because most roofers are skilled at installing roofing material, but are not very good at finding a hidden leak.

Common Chimney Damage Causes

Chimney damage can happen for a variety of reasons.

  1. Lack of Maintenance: Small cracks in the concrete chimney cap and mortar joints can allow excessive water to enter the chimney and cause accelerated deterioration of the chimneys masonry.
  2. Water Damage: Leaks can erode mortar joints, rust metal components, and cause spalling in bricks.
  3. Weather Exposure: Repeated exposure to rain, snow, ice, and differing temperatures can cause the masonry to deteriorate.

Frequently asked questions.

Get the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our chimney repair services.

How often should I inspect my chimney for damage?2024-07-07T20:22:07-05:00

This depends on a variety of factors, such as the age of the chimney, the material it is made of, and the area you live in.

As a rule of thumb, we recommend inspecting your roof after each intense weather event. This can include a snowstorm/blizzard, heavy rainfall, or even after particularly strong winds.

How can I inspect my chimney for damage?2024-07-07T20:16:35-05:00

There are a few things you can do to inspect your chimney for potential damage.

Using a pair of binoculars, stand outside your home and take a good look at your chimney. At a glance, do you notice anything different in its appearance? Keep an eye out for visible cracks in the chimney, loose or deteriorating mortar between the bricks, or tilting of the chimney as a whole. We also recommend checking for any sign of animal activity, as critters such as birds, squirrels, and raccoons often like to build their nests on chimneys and may involuntarily cause damage.

You can also check for chimney issues inside your home. If you’ve noticed water leaks/stains or unpleasant odors coming from your fireplace, you may be dealing with a chimney leak.

How long does it take to complete a chimney repair?2024-07-07T19:46:02-05:00

In most cases, chimney repair projects can be completed within one day. In the case of a more complex chimney issue, it may take up to two full days for the problem to be resolved.
